It has been over a year since we released our first public beta of Monolith and we wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update about what we’ve been up to.
The past year has been amazing for our team. We are extremely excited to announce our release of a new version of Monolith as part of a recent acquisition by Autodesk, a software company dedicated to creating cutting edge 3D design, engineering and entertainment software.
Monolith started as a collaborative research project about voxel-based modeling for 3D printing. We had two developers each of whom had day jobs, families, lives, etc. It took us three years of design and development to release our first public build, but we felt we had created a great product which opened up a completely new way to think about design. However, we also felt that we could do more.
When conversations with Autodesk began late last summer, we quickly realized that our goals and mindsets were very similar. Autodesk saw the value and potential in voxel-based modeling and we loved that. They saw how dedicated we are to creating a truly ground breaking design experience and they were ready to join us in taking the next step.
That brings us to today. We’re now officially part of Autodesk and are looking forward to utilizing our new resources to create the best voxel-based modeling platform for your designs. We will now be able to push faster and produce a better product for all of you.
We are also committed to building our Monolith community. We realize that learning to work with voxels has a learning curve and that you often have questions that need answers. To help us (and you) build our community, we are launching a dedicated forum powered by discourse. Now you can ask questions, provide feedback, make suggestions, or launch a discussion about anything and everything related to voxel-based design. We hope you’ll become an active member of our community.
As mentioned, we're also extremely excited to be releasing a new version of the Monolith application complete with an all new plugin for Grasshopper. With over a year in development, this release contains a huge list of new features, improvements, and bug fixes. We know you’re excited to learn just what is included in this release, so check out our next blog post to find out more!
We’re really excited about this next chapter and we hope you’ll join us on this journey. As always, we love hearing your feedback so drop us a line and let us know how we’re doing
